A couple of nice things happened this weekend
If it is a weekend running errands or going shopping or I am on vacation or I am working from home, I am normally wearing one of my kilts. Normally, I get comments of nice kilt (surprisingly normally from ladies) or questions about why I wear it or what clan, etc. But, this weekend was a little different.
On Saturday, my wife and I were in a Denny's having breakfast and I was kilted in my Lamont tartan. An older gentleman walks over and he is looking directly at us. When he gets to our table he introduces us and asks me if I know about the St. Andrews Society. As it turns out he is a member of their local society and told me a bit about it and invited me to attend some of their activities and to consider joining. That was the first time that someone with a Scots connection approached me, other than at a celtic event, and it was a nice change. I really hadn't thought about joining the local St. Andrews society but after this conversation I might.
The other event was at a local farmers market. Since we go on Saturday or Sunday I am normally in a kilt, but today I was in Dockers/slacks. Each of the booths we normally go to they said, "Where's the kilt?" I had to smile and I promised to wear it next week. The first time it happened I even offered to go home and change if it meant so much to her.
I know these are both small things but I thought that the Rabble would find it interesting and amusing.
The hielan' man he wears the kilt, even when it's snowin';
He kens na where the wind comes frae, But he kens fine where its goin'.
