Bad Kilt Experience going out ?
Some people have discussed having comments made when they wore their kilt in public (such as nice skirt).
I was wondering if anyone ever had a worse experience. What I mean is a situation where you had to run or defend yourself.
Not sure if I am feeling paranoid today or just concerned about meeting a violent drunk while alone on a street.

Wore my kilt on Canada day at the Great Big Sea concert. Drunken fools draped in the Newfoundland flag was purposely bumping into me and my friends. I did hear a couple of comments made loud enough so I was sure to hear them. I have been down the "fighting everybody who ticked me off" road and I am way to old (33 years) for that highschool junk. I had a great time did nothing to add fuel to his fire and eventually his buddy yanked him away and apoligized to me. All idiots like that are looking for is some excuse to try and prove his manhood in front of his friends. I didn't give him any opportunities.... but if it came down to it I would have had no problems with this drunken fool! but I am glad it didn't come to that.

Forgot to add this point
DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT !
99.999% of the time all comments are totally positive. For that last .001% of the time there is usually a buddy who will smack the fool upside his head and pull him away. I have always found that fools who make trouble do it in the company of thier friends and the friends don't always find him amusing. Have fun, be confident and that will project to all those around you and you won't have any troubles....

This has been my experience also. in 4 years of wearing kilts in public, 3 actively, I've experienced perhaps a dozen derisive remarks and insults. Almost all of those came from idiots in passing cars. Sure, I get the "nice skirt" type comments too but I don't let those bother me too much any more. I've never experienced any violent reactions or serious threats.

Ingy has had a couple of bad experiences and Bubba had one I think once- As you can tell Bubba has not been detered and certainly Ingy has not. Ingy was threatened once by a bunch of drunken women who threated to remove his kilt from him.
The best way to avoid a drunk is to stay away from their houses of worship.
The only negative comment I have gotten thus far was benign and came from a young woman with a big dog wearing blue jeans.

I never had any kind of threatening reaction. A few nice skirt comments and some fool speeding by in a car yelled something unintelligable, but over all reactions have been positive. Of course, I'm pretty good at a "don't even think about it" attitude.

though i'm a short timer, i've not had a 'bad' experience. i did have one uncomfortable moment with a couple of guys who were staring and snickering, apparently at me, however, in restrospect, i believe it was my own confidence level and in fact they were teasing their wives. ( i was in a ladies shoe store with my wife .... ( maybe avoid that scenario! )
i do feel that when wearing the kilt, i stand taller and straighter than in jeans. i walk more deliberate and i do not look down at the ground when walking.
i know when kilted, many people look either in amazement, curiosity or they just don't take time to notice. and that's ok. but i do find people are more friendly than not. and in some cases of disappointment. while opening the door to a shop, one young lady looked up and saw the kilt and she said "hi". and when in answered in my buckeye-psuedo-hillbilly-southern drawl, her shoulders dropped a bit. i'm sure she was expecting a serious Scottish accent. i hope i haven't bashed her fantasy.
anyway. confidence is the winner.

Sorry to misrepresent you. I thought I remembered an incident where you bashed a guy upside the head with a beer bottle...
And by the way... your slipping.. I got one by you in this thread....

The beer bottle had nothing to do with the kilt. That was over something else altogether All I'll say about that is watch how you treat a lady around me.
