    Bishop Coming to Visit

Ok, so quick question for the rabble here... I know we have a few clergy and liturgical type Christians on this board - this is not a question about religion. This Sunday we Orthodox Christians will be celebrating Pentecost, which is one of the major feast days. I usually wear my kilt on these days (with the blessing of my priest). If it is a Vesperal Liturgy - meaning that the service is at night, such as for Christmas and Easter - I will typically wear my black argyle jacket with an evening sporran, and if it is a regular Liturgy (taking place during the day) I will typically wear my light gray polyester kilt jacket with a day sporran.

This weekend, along with Pentecost, our parish's original priest is going to retire and the Metropolitan is coming to visit. So my question is, which should I wear - the black argyle or the light gray polyester? And just to give a little more background, the Metropolitan is the head Bishop of the Antiochian Church in America - the next up from him would be the Patriarch of Antioch, the head Bishop of the entire Antiochian jurisdiction. So this is a pretty special occasion, and even the Liturgy will be what is called a Hierarchical Liturgy which is more complex and festive.

So what does the rabble think? Black argyle with an evening sporran, or light gray polyester with day sporran?

What will the 'non-kilted' do? Will they up the game in their wardrobe?

Very probably. Being as how we are in the South Western part of the country and it gets a little warm here (currently 85°F, or 29°C) there usually aren't a lot of people that come in full suits aside from my brother and I, but since this is a special occasion given it's already a feast day, I know a few parishioners will be dressing up a bit more than normal.

In the Western tradition, one wears red and white on Pentecost. Are there and red-and-white tartans that don't look like Italian table cloths?
Those ancient U Nialls from Donegal were a randy bunch.

Where you are and in those traditions of place and religious community, I would suspect you'd be good in the black jacket, but I would be careful not to overdo the sporran or hose too much if you have choices.

Typically, here in the US Antiochian jurisdiction, the priests will wear green vestments. The only tartan I currently own is the Armstrong, which has a lot of green - not that I'm trying to copy the vestments, but the parish will also be decked out in green.

I only have single color hose at the moment, I was thinking of wearing lovat blue. My other choices would be charcoal, oat, or black.

The sporran I'd wear is a simple black leather and chrome, I have a black faux rabbit fur one for dressier occasions but that one wasn't even in my thoughts.
