Does Teflon Coating a Wool Kilt affect Breathability?

i'm given the option of teflon or not for the kilt, & we've read the great success stories of how clean the kilts stay after teflon treatment, but I'm wondering if it affects breathability? I ask because in the past, wrinkle-free treatments on wool (like on suits) have had issues with being very unbreathable.

If there is even some reduced breathability I probably will have to forego it, but I'd like your thoughts. Most comments deal with the water repellent characteristics only.

Thanks, if any of you have both teflon & no teflon kilts in same weight/weave it would be good for you to share experiences.

With a rather large gap at the bottom, I cannot image that breathability is really an issue; but perhaps I'm missing something.

    Teflon can be a lifesaver...

I have three kilts made from Marton Mills (MM) Jura tartan that I believe are Teflon coated (described on MM's website as "with the benefit of a stain resistant finish as standard to give added durability"). I also have kilts made using tartan from DC Dalgliesh, Locharron and House of Edgar (HoE). All are 16 oz. with the exception of the HoE kilt, which is 13 oz. I can't tell any difference in the breathability of the kilts.

That said, the MM finish once saved one of my kilts: One summer at the Texas Scottish Festival, I was standing between a couple of sets of bleachers and watching the athletics. Behind me, a man (somehow) managed to fall off the bleachers and land heavily on his backside while exiting the bleachers. In his back pocket was a tube of sunscreen, which exploded upon impact, coating the back of my kilt with a thick layer of sunscreen. I turned when I heard the sound and realized what had happened, then saw the state of my kilt. A lady sitting on the bleachers immediately to my right said, "Don't move", produced a roll of paper towels, and proceeded to quickly wipe down the back of my kilt. This all happened in the space of about a minute, but by the end of that minute, you'd never have known the incident had occurred and my kilt looks good to this day. Something to consider!

    Cheers,
