Tomorrow I'm venturing out for the first time in my very own kilt (Winter Classic). I've been formally kilted before, at both my brothers weddings, but this is the first time with my own kit. I plan on going out kilted much more often when the opportunity calls but here's my crisis for tomorrow.

I will be wearing a USAK casual in Cameron with a day sporran, kilt pin, hose/flash, sgian dubh, and a wool sweater which will cover my mid section so I won't be wearing a kilt belt (which I don't have yet anyway so that doesn't matter). So I guess you could say that I'll be kindof semi-formal. Meaning that I'm wearing a casual kilt with all the fixins. So here's the big question - what footwear do I wear? Should I wear a formal or dress style shoe? Can I wear sneakers? The whole outfit looks great and I don't want to ruin it buy wearing the wrong shoes.

Before you respond with "wear whatever is most comfortable" you should know that I will be most comfortable in whatever is appropriate and looks proper. I could walk around all day in dress shoes or sneakers and be just as comfortable either way.

Any/all help is appreciated.

That's best answered by saying to wear the type of shoes you would wear if you were in trousers. Since it's a wedding, I wouldn't wear sneakers; that's just too casual to me. Wear a nice pair of shoes in the same color leather as you sporran and strap.

OOPS!! I saw the mention on your brothers weddings and my mind attached to that.

It sounds like you're going to be dressed pretty casually though, so I wouldn't go with dress shoes. I don't really like sneakers either though, so maybe if you had a soft leather shoe, coordinated with the leathers in your outfit.

If you can,assuming you want the more traditional look,wear a pair of brogues,wing tips I think you call them,and the same colour as your sporran etc..The brogues will see you through casual to semi formal, so you will use them a lot.Good luck.

I would also concur with Jock on this one. Last night at our kilt night there were 3 gents wearing kilts and sweaters, all of us were wearing dress shoes.

Good lord!You are asking me,sir?Well, I can't see if they are brogues(wing tips?),which set off any kilt really well,but no matter,those shoes are fine.

I'd go with a leather shoe that matches your outfit. Maybe not a pair of dress shoes per say, but I don't think sneakers would be appropriate either. Here is a pic of me in a outfit similar to what you describe. Just my two cents....
