There were pipers at my daughter's graduation (+)
My daughter graduated from University of Central Florida last weekend (magna cum laude, thank you very much ). Two pipers were part of the processional and recessional. So far as I know, UCF has no particular Scottish connection; someone in the administration must like pipes. They sounded really, really good - the acoustics in the arena were excellent, and the two pipers were very much in tune.
I didn't get any decent pictures. I found one on someone else's Flickr page (it's from the Spring graduation, but it looks like the same two gentlemen), but I'm unclear as to the etiquette regarding linking to someone else's photos, so I'll leave out the link for now.
Th pipersy were hanging out in the entry hall after the ceremony, and it seemed like they were getting as much attention as some of the grads! Lots of small children getting their pictures taken with them. It was a really nice addition to an otherwise, frankly, generic and somewhat dull graduation ceremony. Except for my daughter. Did I mention she graduated magna cum laude?

Reason: because I accidentally promoted her to summa cum laude the second time.

Congratulations! What a graduation bonus! Regards...

I'm a UCF student and a piper. There are a lot of pipers at the school and in the surrounding area, though there is no formal Scottish connection. I was working on starting a Scottish club, but I haven't had the time to pull it all together.

This is incredible! I am a UCF alum. There were -no- pipers on campus or thereabouts when I was there (the 80s). I used to play my practice chanter out behind the old central circle back when it was woodland.
George7, do you live near the campus? I used to live right off Alafaya (2-lane at the time), not far from the Knights Out Pub.
Wow. This sure takes me back. What a great thing for the graduation ceremony, carlb! Congrats!
