    Celebrating Our 25th.

On August 27th, I wisked my wonderful wife of 25 years off to Sin City (Las Vegas) to renew our wedding vows and see the incomparable Bette Midler. Please join us in the celebration.

The happy couple prepare to depart.....................in style.

Shelly keeps busy awaiting our flight.

We arrived at our hotel around 7:00 PM and was it hot out! Even at that late hour it was still 98!

After check-in, the first order of business was a good meal. The Beijing Noodle House features fresh, handpulled noodles and they were good. They have HUGE aquariums full of goldfish at the entrance.

Immediately after dinner and a few drinks, it was slot time! Shelly just loved the penny slots because she could play for hours and the hostess just kept bringing cocktails!

The next day was busy as we prepared for the wedding! We did take some time to explore the hotel where I met this fellow.

Our limo picked us up at 1:30 PM for the 2:00 PM ceremony. Unfortunately, we were not allowed to photograph inside the chapel, Graceland Chapel that is, where Elvis helped us renew our commitment to each other.

After the ceremony, we went to the Venetian to shop, wander and sightsee. Shelly got a shot of me in my wedding finery.

Now before any of you "trad" curmudgeons get all wound up, I am aware that there may be a few issues with my dress BUT it was MY wedding and I wore items that had meaning to me.

One item I would like to point out is my new argylle jacket. It was purchased through Freedom Kilts and made by St. Kilda. It is a quality piece of
clothing, made to measure and perfectly fitted. It is charcoal wool tweed with matching waistcoat and it was very affordable.

Whilst wandering about dressed as I was, I lost count of the number of people who requested photos, both in the Venetian and outside in the 109 degree heat.

We concluded the evening with a wonderful dinner at Nero's in Caesar's Palace, a thick cut of prime rib for the bride and a nice tenderloin for the groom, a bottle of wine, some sinful desserts and of course, a little penny slot action before bed.

    More to come.

Saturday morning we headed up to Fremont Street to check out the "original" strip. It was great seeing the old casinos and trying our luck up there.

We found our way to the Golden Nugget, a Vegas icon and I tried my luck on the Big One.

Unfortunately, my luck was bad. It was recommended to us to go to the Golden Gate casino for the shrimp cocktails. At home, we're used to three or four shrimp in a cocktail, not here! You get a sundae dish, those tall ice cream dishes, FULL of shrimp and cocktail sauce on top, like a big seafood sundae for $1.99!! We ate four!

After that feast, it was off to New York, New York where I was told I might find a good Irish bar.

Nine Fine Irishmen was a great place for a snack and a pint. Their penny slots sucked too.

The day wore on and soon it was time to head back to our hotel and prepare for The Divine Ms. M. I felt that it was important to look good for my "new" bride, so .....

The show was fantastic. The woman is 62 and she still performs like she was half that. Again, we were not allowed to take photos, you'll just have to go see for yourself.

On Sunday, we had lots of time before our flight left so we went to the Bellagio to see the Dale Chihuly glass works.

I have been a Chihuly fan for years but I've never seen anything like the Bellagio. This is just a sample of the many works on display.

The atrium was a wonderful oasis amid the hustle of the main lobby. It was cool and breezy and beautiful.

While heading out through the mall, Shelly spied one of her favourite shops, CHANEL! Now, there is no way I could afford anything in this store but the staff was happy to let Shelly pose with whatever she wanted. So here she is with a pink lambskin bag, ONLY $2695.00.

Well, I won't bore you any further. We had a wonderful time and I hope I gave my bride some memories to last a lifetime because she really deserves it.

Well if you had not spent all that money on the penny slots you could have bought that one!

    Congratulations to you both!

    Hi Mikey,

Thanks for sharing your special event with us. I see nothing wrong with your wedding finery - you were obviously the smartest looking man there. And great looking hose toppers too!

    Here's to the next 25!

    Regards

    Chas
