Celebrating William Wallace's Birthday at the Fredericskburg Pub
Stopping by after work today, for a Scottish Ale at the Fredericksburg Pub, I was told by my lovely barmaid, Maggie about the celebrations this weekend in honor of William Wallace's birthday this Sunday.
There is to be a band on Friday and Saturday. A piper playing Saturday and Sunday. I actually have Friday evening off this week. Friday and Sunday evenings will be a good time for me to lift one to William.
Anyone else care to join me?

August 23 is not Wallace's birthday, but the day he was killed, in 1305. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Wallace

Well, I suppose if you can't celebrate his true birthdate, one can celebrate his memory on the date of his death, eh?

Right, guys! Thanks for the correction. The plaque is superb, McMurdo.
I think Bold Highlander is right. It's like the celebration or feast day of a canonized Saint. We don't celebrate the birthday of St. Columba but his day of death. In the same way honoring Wallace on the day of his death is remembering the sacrifice in what he gave us.

Having just gotten home from Toronto, I've no idea what the rest of the week looks like for me, or even what I've got on for the weekend. But I'll take a look and see if I can make it down to help you honor the Guardian of Scotland.
