Yikes!...what color hose??

There has been much written lately, here on XMTS, about peoples' preferences for hose color. I'm not here to rehash that topic, as everyone has their own opinion.

My question to the masses: I have an Irish National kilt and have worn black and white hose with it. It seems to get great responses everywhere. However, I'd like to have input on another color. Any suggestions? I was thinking of bottle green, and then a bottle green tie for dress. Is that too much?? Over the top with green?

Also, I have an Isle of Skye kilt coming from Scotland (will be here tomorrow....yippee!). I was thinking of hose color, either light green or purple. Again, suggestions? Thanks!

A good alternative color for the Irish National might be yellow hose. I think that would look rather nice, actually, with bottle green flashes.

For the Isle of Skye, there are a lot of options. There are actually three shades of green in that tartan, and I find that all three colors of green Lewis hose we sell (lovat, loden, and bottle) work with one of the shades in the Isle of Skye. Purple is always an option. Brown hose and grey hose look quite nice with it, too.

For the Irish National I'd say, you could wear Bottle Green, I do not think it would too much green at all. You could also wear Yellow I think as there is a yellow stripe in the kilt. As for the Isle of Skye, I have a kilt in that tartan and I often wear lovat green, purple and even brown with the Isle of Skye. Here are some examples.

Just about any color hose will go with the IoS, except maybe black. Just reach into your kilt sock drawer and grab a pair and put them on---you will look fine.

Irish national has a similar color palette (thanks Rex) to my Forrester Hunting family tartan---bright and dark green, black, yellow, white. I usually wear a bottle green hose and yellow flashes with mine:

Obviously cream would go well too, and maybe black, but I am not much of a yellow guy yet. Maybe some day.

The khaki shade hose from WPG goes well with either of the two kilts.

Green, white and gold, the Irish are so Bold....lol You have several options with that kilt... Go bottle green and get imaginative with flashing colors... Orange, yellow/gold, white, or....

With my IoS I have to date worn hose of the following colors, although I don't have photos of all of them: lovat green, bottle green, cream with thistles woven into the tops, purple and purple heather handsewns, navy blue, maroon, stone, and my latest addition to hte hose collection Skye Highland Outfitters "Triced" hose in IoS color scheme. There are probably a couple more pairs in the collection which would go well too, like maybe my loden with red checked top, my maroon with yellow and loden checked top. Like I said, try it out---odds are it will probably go with the IoS and look good.

Well, let's see... My own input... I have and Albannach tartan kilt from USA Kilts. It is very similar to the IoS. I wear purple Lewis Rich hose with that one, and it looks spectacular. Given the similarities in the two tartans, I'd wager that purple would be a killer choice for the IoS as well. As to the Irish National... I'm with Matt on this issue! A pair of yellow hose would look great- the would really make the tartan pop I think. I have a pair of bottle green hose that I wear with my Colorado State tartan kilt, and that is the exact reason- the brighter color really brings out the beauty of the tartan.

And looking at McMurdo's pics... isn't it amazing how different color hose can make the same tartan look like a different one?
