    Another Question

Please keep in mind, that this is all still new to me and I have loads of questions. I have only been wearing a kilt for a few months.
For those of you who do not wear anything under your kilt.....that very first time, did you question yourself, should I or shouldn't I ?
    Were you nervous ?
Were you sub-conscious of the fact that you only had a piece of cloth between your ananomy, and the eyes of all the poeple around you, and that that piece of cloth, could expose you ?
Tell me your thoughts and experience, that first time.

I don't wear anything under my "regular" clothes, why would i wear anything under my kilt? It is just another piece of my attire. Don't get the wrong idea. I respect my scottish attire and really enjoy wearing it.

Yeah, same here! I find p@^ts to be binding enough without having even more material bunching around my tenders! It was a perfectly natural transition. There are times when I don't go reg, though, like on extremely windy days and the occasions when I wear my Sport Kilt. That's when I'm competing in some sort of athletics competition and there's the possibility of me falling down or kilt flying up.

While I heartily approve (from a female's perspective) of him going regimental, I did make a strong *request* (ok, it was a demand) that when we are involved in Scouting functions, he has to wear something underneath. He bought navy and black boxer briefs just for that purpose. Same rule applies for our 12-yr old son when he wears his kilt.

Both of us are Scout leaders, and we want to avoid this even becoming a potential issue!

I have a pair of yellow Sponge Bob boxers that say "Freedom is not wearing pants." And no, I'm not joking! I Also have a red pair with a caboose on it that says "Cute caboose!"

Shame on you, Nighthawk, and your little red caboose.

When I first started wearing my Kilt, I was lucky enough to have input in these matters from allot of good folks in my local Saint Andrew's Society. My wife purchased me a copy of So you are going to wear the kilt, soon after we were married, which brought up the matter and offered suggestions. I have worn my kilt without underwear and with different styles of underwear. If one normally does wear underwear, then I would say you probably will not be any more or less uneasy than if you wore jeans without underwear.

The different standards applied to Kilt wearers has often confused me. Were I out in public in trousers, no one would think it proper to inquire about my choice in under garments, much less to try and move (or remove) my pants in order to find out for themselves. Yet in my kilt, it is taken as a given that I am supposed to advertise publicly such choices, and many women seem to feel it their right or responsibility to check for themselves. I thought of this very issue in the thread about the student wanting to wear a Kilt to his prom, in that he told his principal that he would of course be wearing underwear. I thought that strange, as the boys in tuxes make no such assurances. To me underwear or the lack thereof is a personal matter, not to be discussed or displayed among gentlemen.

The main opponent to my not wearing underwear is my wife, who seems to think that I will make a day of flashing women should I dress like that. I have told her that with or without, I am still me and do not plan on intentional indecent exposure any day, kilted or not. I have a T-Shirt that makes the distinction between Kilt & skirt as being totally dependent on underwear. I would consider that T-Shirt to almost require regimental wear, lest it lead to some embarrassment, after an unwelcome Kilt check. My wife does not agree with me. Guess who wins that argument.

I've been looking for a pair that say "Kiss me! I'm Irish." I think having that on my butt for kilt checks would be hysterical.

Ok, Nighthawk, that's a very cute idea.

Here's what you can do if you don't find any; though surely they have those somewhere. Go buy some nice green boxer's- or what ever you prefer. Take them to a T-shirt shop, and have that print it on the undies in red letters.

Well, Larry beat to that one! I haven't worn anything under my clothes since I was like 12.

All I can say is if you're nervous, don't do it. No particular reason to. We have no need to tie our shirts between our legs to keep from flopping around. If you're self-concious about it but want to try it, start off wearing it around the house, then out the back garden, then to get the mail... Step by step!

What D.A. said. You don't have to go regimental if you don't wish. There are non kilted folks that expect that you are wearing nothing beneath, it's really not their business. You shouldn't worry about accidental exposure with the weight of the kilt and sporran aprons don't go flying up unless there is a really strong wind. Well placed hands will take care of that predicament. Again when sitting down sweep your pleats, knees apart the sporran will fall down between your thighs pushing the aprons down. Again a little push with the hand if you're concerned at all. A sporran is also well placed and weighted when blood flow extends below the border. Be aware that there might be others that feel it is their right to lift and show or to check for themselves. Most times alcohol is involved so be guarded.
