I, personally, think the idea needs to be rethought because the kilt is not an authorized Naval uniform. Yes yes, he's in the Jr. Sea Cadets and not the USN. However, I HIGHLY doubt the kilt is part of the Jr. Sea Cadets' uniform either. He is, after all, wearing a uniform. I think if he's going to wear insignia, ribbons, rank etc, it needs to be as authorized, not a mish-mash simply because he wants to wear the kilt AND his uniform. I would indeed be of the same opinion were he wearing trousers that were not part of the authorized uniform (Dockers, jeans, tartan trews--whatever.) Again, it's the Jr. Sea Cadets and not the USN. But, isn't the whole idea of the cadets to prepare for actual military service? Or, to prepare for actual ROTC etc?

I simply feel it's a costume as it is. Either wear the dress version of the uniform or wear your kilt, but not a pick-and-choose of both.

Respectfully,
well, what I think the guy is trying to do is show that he is a cadet and a kilt wearer, not trying to make his uniform a costume but it seems he wants to wear a kilt with it as well.
