i have a sportkilt and it is my second kilt, a stillwater being my first. and they are in no way the same, different material, different yardage and different feel. but i like them both for each of the reasons, if im going out and i feel like its an event where jeans wouldn't be appropriate i would wear my SW, but if i'm just going out and about ill wear the SK. as some one else said i wouldnt call it a 'lesser kilt' by any means, its just a different style of kilt for a different style of wear/person. i use my sport kilt for hiking and for back yard BBQ's and being out on the town, but i also use the SW for the same things. so really its a tough call and unless you could see them both side by side theres not really any real way to judge them correctly. one word of advise if you get a sportkilt i would definitly get the sewn down pleats, i saw some of their kilts with out this option and they looked kinda silly honestly. i have pictures of both kilts in my profile.
