    Re: fun with modern kilting

You know, Bugbear those are my thoughts, too. One of my working assumptions is that with modern kilt wear sporrans (oh yes, and flashes/garters) are optional and pockets are an interesting and practical addition to the garment whether that be slash pockets or cargo-styled pockets. I'm heading in the direction of no sporran.

I think the potential for this thread is much a long the line of a photo-essay for modern kilt wear. It's good to have photos all in one place, full of ideas and suggestions for how to put a modern kilt-look together. And, it is helpful for guys like me who are exploring this particular genre (did I just say, genre?!) of kilt wear.

So to the above posters: Riverkilt, CMcG, Bugbear, SevenOaks, and Big Mikey, awesome examples. What I've noticed among many things is that non-tartan kilts would work great with my patterned vests and sweaters. I'm likn' it so far!

    Arrrgh...

How come when I think I have a good idea... let's say a photo essay on "Fun with Modern Kilting" and then, a master photo-essayist comes a long and says, "Oh, BTW...." OK, let's assume that the "older thread" which is fabulous (swallowing my embarassment) just would not appear at any time, when I was searching and in fact, did not... I would like to thank you Colin for bringing this "older thread" to our attention. Threads, excellent ones, like this seem to get buried on this forum and I am more than pleased when they surface. I just wish my timing was better! Are there more pics?

Yes, it's unfortunate that the older modern kilt pics thread is now closed and hasn't been made into a sticky

On the bright side, it means there is more room for a new thread

lukeyrobertson, that thread has passed and is now closed; there have been changes since. It's good that you started this one as new life to the subject and cycle. That is the way of things, so thank you.

Stillwater Kilts has a canvas utility sporran that I personally think works well with my Utilikilt.

OK, I feel better now. Thanks Bugbear and CMcG for your understanding words. You are both right. Change happens. Or as a sharp flight attendant once said, "Shift happens".
