Capt O'Brien The Irishman Con Costume
I just joined Starfleet Int'l (a Star Trek fan organization) and my ship the USS Zavala was just commissioned. I'm thinking of putting together a costume for formal events with an "Insurrection white" jacket http://i.ebayimg.com/t/Star-Trek-Ins...m7hw~~0_12.JPG with either all gold or all green trim to wear along with my Munster Province Tartan, a celtic knot buckle, a white rabbit fur Irish sporran, a sgian dubh with a green crystal pommel, bottle green hose, a shamrock and claymore kilt pin, and soft black dancing ghillies. We had a get-together for all the "ships" in Region 3 (TX & LA) at Space Center Houston next door to NASA's Johnson Space Center for Star Trek's 45th Anniversary and a dinner afterward. The captain of the USS Firebird showed up in black Starfleet Marine BDUs with a black Utilikilt.

Re: Mr. Scott the Scotsman con costume
I attended a Creation Con around 1993 in San Jose, CA. Suited up as a member of "Starfleet Marine Highlanders (Cochrane's Own)"--kilt, black leather sporran, gold-braided Starfleet Next Gen shirt, and a kilt belt I modded with a Starfleet insignia.
Didn't have a Cochrane tartan kilt, though.
Got a lot of pics, and a smiling nod from Patrick Stewart. :-D

Captaen O'Brien at the Con: Change of Kilt Pin
Since I'm a McMahon on my mother's side, I'm probably a descendant of Brian Boru so make that an O'Brien clan crest kilt pin and hold the shamrock pin. And instead of 4 pips on the collar, 4 shamrock pins.

Re: Mr. Scott costume: Did You Get To Dragon.Con?
Did you get to Dragon.Con and did you get any pics? Just a few suggestions to pimp out what you have: a big combadge, a white rollneck sweater ala TWOK, a Star Trek TOS belt buckle (not the belt from Hong Kong, the oval two-tone buckle from Amazon), a Vulcan IDIC pin or one of those lightning bolt kilt pins, and a pair of matching red hose (now that they make them) or rugby socks but with no flashes. Ditch the wooden walking stick for an aluminum walking staff. For a sgian dubh use a regimental sgian dubh in black and silver or a chrome handled boisdale or one of the inexpensive open lattice hilt sgian dubhs with the stone on top. Geek out, friend. One of these days we'll be saving up for our kilts in "Starfleet" tartan.

Re: Mr. Scott the Scotsman con costume
One thing that I always thought would look interesting with this type of uniform would be to take the belt buckles that were worn in the movies and add a pin backing to make it into a broach for the plaid. Although it is a strong mixing of eras I think it would work well enough. Oh and Scotty wore his own tartan so as far as we know everyone else could also, there is no need for a Starfleet tartan.
