    Re: Kilted Paintball

love playing paintball but have yet to (and not sure if i will) play kilted, just for fear of being shot up kilt, as normally when i play i am shooting from a kneeling position. although i have played in a full suit and tie before. that sure got some looks from every one else who was dressed in complete camo. i do wear camo some times but the fields i play in i dont see it as any benefit, too many people and too much shooting to really be able to 'hide' effectively. And if i did wear a kilt i would be too weary of it being torn as i am the guy who runs and literally dives for cover, alot of the times coming out wearing torn up clothes and would be very sad if i torn up a kilt

    Re: Kilted Paintball

I never really understood calling the main tool of Paintball a Marker. Especially since mine is engraved with the phrase THIS G** IS NOT A TOY. I actually think that we lost some critical understanding of field safety when that transition was made.

    OK, Rant over.

As for playing Kilted, I have never done it but I know out at Skirmish there have been several teams that play in the D-Day game and step off the landing craft with their own pipers. I was reading a paintball magazine several years ago and say a pic of one such piper and looked at his name. I discovered that he had grown up in my state and when My wife and I were the scholarship committee for the St. Andrew's Society, we awarded him a piping scholarship. Just last year I ended up meeting his brother who is also a piper at an event in New York.

the original use for a 'paintball gun' was in the forestry industry. a forester would go around and would have to paint trees that were going to be cut. well some one figured out that it would be easier to shoot the paint at the tree instead of walking around so much, thus the paint marker was created, in order for a person to 'mark' trees that would be eventually cut down, it was also a lot lighter than carrying around a bucket of paint. not for a while afterwards did they start to use them on each other for fun rather than work.

but i also agree with you that it should be called a gun because thats exactly what it is and should be handled as one for all safety reasons.

OK thats all for my little history lesson, back to our original topic of discussion.
