The overall hipster response to my kilt has been righteous indignation, even when wearing it in a modern style (t-shirt, boots, scrunched hose).

Of course I say this while on the razor-sharp precipice of "young" and "old". I'm too young to relate to those considered "Old", and am way too old to relate to those considered "young".
The edgy kilt look has been around for a long time. Look at Duncan on Monarch of the Glen which aired in 2000. Even then, the hiker boot/kilt look had been in the fashion mainstream for quite awhile. I'm looking forward to what the next generation will do with their kilts. Although I am a kilt traditionalist at heart, I love innovation and new ideas.
