I think there is a misconception that green/blue/brown daywear tweed jackets are unsuitable for informal evening wear. In Scotland, any of the many 'daywear' tweeds are suitable at any time providing it is not an occasion or event requiring formal evening wear. Gray is fine if you like it, but it is no more formal for THCD than any other tweed.
