    Hose Color Questions

    Dear All,

I have recently started a one step program to quit white kilt hose... buy colored kilt hose. To be perfectly honest though, I had never even bought kilt hose before

and these are not even kilt hose.... they are knicker hose.... Ahem, beggars cannot be choosers.

So I was wondering how you "Match" hose to tartan? For instance,

    Does this work?

There is actually a blue stripe in the tartan that matches the hose exactly. I also got a charcoal grey pair that I have not tried out yet.

I always appreciate advice and helpful criticisms on the rest of my kilt attire as well.

the blue does not look bad but I think I would prefer the gray. HOWEVER, the white "knicker" hose look excellent to me.

The blue hose do look great!

I like it when Mickey wears hose that do not match but instead go with his kilt. Like his Hamilton Gray, no gray, black or charcoal hose, but instead the claret or purple are my favorites.

I also found the claret to go very nicely with his Leatherneck tartan, more so than say a green or blue might.

    Re: Hose Color Questions

Don't worry about matching too much. I think the Lovat blue hose look far better than the ecru coloured hose you are wearing in your first photo. For your specific tartan, I think the following colours would work well:

Fawn (oatmeal/stone - a bit darker than ecru and off-white)
    Claret
    Tartan red
    Brick red
    Dark Natural
    Brown
    Mustard
    Loden
    Bracken
    Lovat Green
    Mid-grey
    Charcoal grey
    St. Andrew's blue
    Blue mix
    Lovat blue

And of course the colours above could be used to create pleasing colour combinations with kilt hose or country socks that have a coquet, or 'diced' cuff (turnover).

    Best of luck,

    Re: Hose Color Questions

Yes, they work - within reason, all colours work. But white hose tend to give thin men a skinny legged look. I too have thin calves and cannot wear white hose for that reason - I look like a stick insect!

All shades of blue and green and brown will work. For every pair of hose I buy, I buy two different coloured garters. That way I can mix and match, depending on the occasion.

Don't forget to tell relatives that a good pair of hose is always acceptable for birthdays and Christmas.

    Regards

    Chas

I agree with all of the above.

Hahaha! Quite right, Chas. Good point in regards to the garters, as I do the same. However, like I have stated previously on the forum, I nearly always grab my red garters! I suppose I do so, because red (garters or flashes) works well with any colour and any tartan.

    Cheers,

Well, I guess whatever you wear, it's a "hose of a different colour."
