Oh, hey Alan. I just had a great idea.
Remember that meme from a while ago - Pic of a guy running through his house laden with a big sandwich and a whole pot of coffee - The caption is - "There is this guy on the internet, AND HE'S WRONG!"

You and I could have an argument. We could challenge each other. We would agree to meet on neutral ground.

Two old guys - in skirts - dukeing in out.

I'll bet people would pay money for that.

We could have our own reality TV show.

Hey, if we're going to have a reality show, it needs to have Kim Kardashian in it.

...For plot interest. Maybe she'll wear tartan.

Na, I would prefer the girl from the Lochcarron site. She already wears Tartan. In fact there is almost enough fabric, that if you squint just right, you can just make out a full Sett.

I disagree Jock, while in the Highlands it is quite common to see native born Highland Scots celebrating their heritage with National Dress. Pakistani, Indian, Greek, German, French, The Scandinavian countries, Russian, Indonesian, African of about three different types. You can see individuals and whole families. You can see celebrations of heritage in food, (Tika Masala is now the National Dish of Scotland, according to Frommers it is ordered and served more than any other menu item) dance, music and dress.
Celebrating your roots, where you come from, would be sort of odd if you never left. So the kilt - not so much. Everywhere else in the world however, those of Scottish descent celebrate where they come from.

I don't know of any Highland Scot who deliberately dons his kilt to celebrate being a Scot on a day to day basis. Its just what Highland Scots do when the mood takes. I suspect if that thought actually crossed their minds whilst donning the kilt they would put on trousers. I have.

I don't think even the most ardent Scots Highlander expects anyone to forget their roots and family connections completely, Steve. I think that I have been at pains in pointing that out? We don't forget our own assorted world connections either. What I think many in Scotland find unsettling, which manifests itself in many forms, is the degree that those from outwith these shores go to. It is to many Scots minds overpowering and excessive which causes the bemused head shaking over here. Added to this it is this unbending and unrealistic expectations the many from outwith these shores, who appear to refuse to accept that they do not belong to Scotland and Scotland does not belong to them. It is just not the Scottish way or style, or to put it another way," its just not done". I fear that whilst the Razz-ma -tazz and general hype from those outwith Scotland continues, the less enthusiastic the naturally lower key Scots are becoming. I see it plainly here on this website and we see it here in Scotland all too often. Moderation of that renowned enthusiasm of visitors to Scotland would be a welcome change.

As an example, we were at Fort George yesterday having a look at the dolphins from the ramparts and the wonderful revamped museum and there was a group of visitors from abroad lecturing a group of serving servicemen(the Fort is also an active barracks) who's paths had crossed, on how they should wear their uniforms! The looks on the faces of those young soldiers was a picture, and the looks of relief when a passing Corporal rescued them had to be seen to behold! A Scottish soldier's language is renowned the world over and after the visitors had moved on it was a classic! I took the opportunity to chat to them afterwards and apparently this is not an uncommon event.

Well, that's just incredibly rude, and pointless as well.
