I'm not that bothered about the age of the tartan; but it is good to be able to answer the question "what tartan is that?" when I'm out and about.

I'm guessing that that project was inspired by the House Of Edgar 1986 project of marketing tartans for every Irish county, and by the pushback in some quarters due to the HOE tartans ignoring the colours associated with the counties (as seen, for example, on the county GAA uniforms).

I love the HOE project due to it being pure old-school tartan design, the colours and patterns chosen for their attractiveness alone, in most cases.
