I've looked for bodyglide and haven't found any. Is it sold at Wal-Mart for instance or does one have to go to a speciality store to find it?

Try an athletic store. I found it in a store that specialized in running gear. Also try outdoor/hiking type stores.

Sporting goods stores...look near the athletic supporters.
I also recommend it highly for hiking, etc.

Very good stuff! A must have even if your thighs don't rub (hair is an abrasive also).
My first stick was the smaller size and lasted about 1 year with light use. I purchased the larger size this time.
I have typically bought it from these guys

but I recently saw it a Dick's Sporting Goods and Performance Bikes carries it as well.
Prices do not seem to vary greatly from place to place. The first link I show has a$2 or $3 shipping and I believe USA Kilts is around there as well.

I've never tried it. But, I fear if I were to gain much more weight I might be forced to

This is the one you want (it's NOT the "warming" one or any other flavor):
We have them for $10 / a stick (plus shipping) and they're in our "Other Accessories" page.

when i am already chafed i've had good luck using A&D ointment. look for it in th ebaby section of your local supermarket. so far no transfer to the kilt, but i cheat (crotch-cut boxers).

It always amazes me that so many of the members here claim they wear a kilt over pants for comfort reasons yet there are always plenty of people chiming in about their troubles with chafing.
While I haven't had much problem with chafing I do take precautions agains it. For light activity when I think I will be ward (so therefore sweat) I find good old solid antiperspirant works just fine. If I am gong to do something athletic I do what athletes do - wear something underneath the kilt. Any lube of antiperspirant is only so good and if you are 5 miles from base on a hike and it starts to hurt down there...well you know what I mean.
By the way it is all very nice to say that they didn't worry about a little chafing back in WWI but I guarantee none of them would be described as even slightly overweight.

Y'know, I've got to say that I chafe a hell of a lot less in a kilt than in trousers-and I'm one of the sweatiest guys anywhere. (I've been known to sweat in negative temps and have it freeze to my skin.) But then again, when I'm at home, I don't wear anything unless we have guests, so I'm used to being regimental, as it were.
