The Navy or "Modern" is an alternate only. It would be completely different than the previous runs of the X Marks Tartan.
No decision has been made to weave an alternate version. That decision would be up to the members who have outstanding orders in.
AND PLEASE REMEMBER, IT IS ONLY ABOUT AN INCH OR TWO OF THE SELVEDGE THAT IS EFFECTED. THE FABRIC COULD STILL BE HEMMED IF YOU WISH.

That would make an awfully thick hem in a 16-oz fabric, wouldn't it?

I have hemmed a 16 oz. kilt with no problem of thickness. It's actually only three layers of fabric at the thickest. You use a 1" or better blind hem. If done carefully, and by hand, it is almost unnoticable to anyone but a really good kiltmaker.
I think Barb hemmed a couple of run #2 X Marks kilts in 14 oz.

so the fabric is 60 inches wide??? hrmmmm.....and only a few inches are ruined. So if I needed a drop of 23 inches...and my kilt maker has no problem hemming...then even with the mangled bits, I should still be ok then right???
------------------------------------------------------------------
the options:
1- getting the stuff we ordered, torn and all. How many wouldn't mind hemming?
2- navy. It might be nice to look at....but it's not official xmarks. I wouldn't mind navy, but it's not my preference. I don't own any tartan kilt yet and was really hoping this could be my first.
How many folks are ok with the navy? IF there aren't enough for another run...will it cost extra?
3- waiting for more xmarks weathered blue yarns. Jones time is substantially longer but it would be exactly what we have already paid for.
How many prefer this option? Assuming that some will take single widths of the mangled tartan. We won't need as much of the new...however less yardage costs more?
Will F&K make the xmarks tartan a priority once the yarn does come in?
If we all order new, what happens to all the mangled? Seems wasteful to scap it all.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
How does this whole thing play out for F&K? Assuming they sent hundreds of dollars worth of tartan to their finisher...and the finisher ruins it. Does the finisher reimburse F&K for their costly mistake?
If we then buy the mangled stuff for 50% off, then does the weaver stand to make more money selling the mangled stuff than if he were to sell the new?? I'm really really not trying to be rude or presumptious. I just want to know how this will play out for all parties involved.
I'd also really like to hear from the others who ordered fabric. What are your plans??? It might make it easier to come to some sort of decision if this is discussed more.
ANybody want to start some sort of poll?

I'd LOVE to hear Steve's responses to Cloves . . .
There are a NUMBER of options open.
I LIKE navy, mainly because I already HAVE some from a previous run.
IDEALLY, I'd LOVE enough for a normal 4 yard box and a navy 4 yard box.
If everyone else wants weathered/normal X Marks, fine by me.
Let's see what Steve has to say and his response from all the emails he has been bombarded by from the purchasers.
He is the man in the middle of the storm . . .

Let's see, you all sent me almost $6,000.00.
There is a kilt night on Friday.

OOPS!
Come on Steve, you can do better than that! For 6K you could get a real nice visit with Robertson and Emma for you and your bride.... We would not hold it against you long.....
