I often wear the kilt without kilt hose. I wear kilt hose when the weather warrants it. When it's hot out or I'm working out, I'd be wading in sweat if I were wearing thick wool socks! Wear what you want - the kilt is a garment, not a costume! When I hike or run I wear low crew socks, that only come up to my ankles. When I run I don't wear a sporran. Wear the kilt for comfort, because you want to. Especially while doing active sports, there's no need to make it a fashion show!

Right! Besides, long stockings are dangerous when doing active sports in cold weather. They interfere with the radiator effect of the lower legs, which is an important part of the body's temperature-control system. Wear long socks when running in cold weather and you'll sweat so much that you'll likely be chilled while trying to cool down.
