The prices seem comparable to Caringorm Imports (formerly Hector Russell) here, remember you get what you pay for, I for one would rather pay a wee bit more for quality than go for tat.

Still seems like there are plenty of other spots to get good quality, hand-made stuff for better prices.

The thing with the Hector Russell name is that you know the level of quality that you get with them, I am lucky in that I have several Tartan Shops in driving distance, I would say that out of them all I personally would rather go to a shop like Hector Russell, Caringorm because the level of expertise of the staff is unparalleled, and the quality of the goods is excellent.

My first kilt is a Hector Russell that I picked up in Edinburgh off the ex-hire rack. I like it fine, it's an 11oz in Robertson Ancient Hunting. It's still very much in the shape that I bought it in. One thing I noticed is that the lining is not sewn in very well, just kinda tacked along the fell line (is that what you call it, around the hips?). There's no canvas backing or anything. I'd never have missed it except reading stuff from this forum, but now it strikes me as odd. That's perhaps what I get for buying an ex-hire kilt. The fabrics fine (looks really good actually) and all of that, but sometimes I'm a little worried about where I wear it because I keep wondering if it'll somehow start to wear out in places. I may be paranoid (partly due to the light weight, I'm sure I'm just over-sensitive), but I've been back in their stores a couple of times over the years, after I knew more about what to look for and just haven't been all that thrilled with 'em. Just my opinion.
