who is gonna know any way if its accurate or not. i bet maybe one in 50,000 would know.
So many reenactors and "living history" types have been bitten by this attitude: "I can get away with this (non-authentic/anachronistic item) because the public is too stupid to know better," only to have some knowledgeable spectator approach them and call them out on their blunder - much to the hobbyist's embarrassment and the derision of his fellows....

There is some historical evidence that tartan was not the only material used for clothing in the Highlands. I think an earth-tone tweed or solid color should be acceptable, especially for a belted plaid.
