I don't know if they're connected with the Gold Brothers...I looked through several pages of the site for a clue to this. I would point out that the term "Scottish Made" does appear frequently rather than that ominous "Designed in Scotland" tag. Probably one or more of our members living in or about Galashiels could give us some insight...till then, I wouldn't write them off as a branch of the "Tartan Tat Brigade".

I am Raymond Hamilton, www.mytartan.com We have a factory in Galashiels in the Scottish Borders. We are a wholesaler and retailer we are part of HAMILTON PRODUCTS,weare not connected with anyone else. We do sell 8 yard poly/vicose kilts. The reason is simple, I think everyone should have the chance to wear a kilt whether it be £500 or £40. We have complete scottish made outfits for £300 this includes the jacket as well, our customers can't afford to pay £800 for their national dress. My opinion is that Lochcarron and other manufacturers of Tartan material have had it to good to long. They are ripping off their own countryman. The shops in Edinburgh and other High Street locations get the same material and the same kilt maker. I sell this 8 yard wool kilt for £200, they sell fir £350. We need a cheap kilt for the poor people who only want to wear the kilt with pride. Raymond Hamilton

That's cool. Welcome to Xmarksthescot.com by the way. I wouldn't go as far to say that kilt makers that charge that much are "Ripping off their own countrymen" but we're all entitled to our own opinions. As you know I'm sure there is a lot that goes into a handsewn kilt.

A question that I have though is, if you are manufacturing the $40 kilts and making them yourselves, why is it that most of your designs are the standard tartans that you can find at most other places that offer them for the same price? I would love to see some new tartans to choose from rather than the standard; MacKenzie, Gordon, Stewart, and Heritage of Scotland. Don't get me wrong I love these tartans but everyone has them.

If you have the ability to make other tartans I would definitely consider them. Now there are more tartans that come from Gold Bros ( I know you said that you weren't affiliated and that's cool) but if you look at thefrugalcorner.com website they have about 35 different tartans to choose from. If someone could manufacture different tartans instead of the common ones, I'm sure they would sell like hotcakes.

If you could take a picture of the tag inside the kilt and post it too that'd be great. I'd love to see the designer tag.

Anyways, I've babbled on long enough, welcome to Xmarks again, and I hope we hear more from you.

Good to hear from Mr. Hamilton. I had read somewhere that there was a shop starting up in Galashiels that was going to feature goods made by the locals and I realized after looking at the MyTartan website that it was probably the one that I had read about. Hence my caution about not assuming that it was part of the Gold Brothers empire.

Look forward to seeing some pics and reviews from anybody who gets some of their stuff.
