How low does the sporran hang?

I've seen many people wearing their sporrans too low, both in pictures on line and in person. I often see people here posting pics of themselves with comments such as "I know I should be wearing my sporran higher...."

I have never seen someone and thought to myself, "he's wearing his sporran too high."

So I think this is a case of, when it doubt, wear it higher.

I find a good rule of thumb is to ensure the top of the sporran is at the level of the public bone as this acts as a cushion prevents any uncomfortable banging around where you don't want it.
