Just a note-I've relocated to California, and all our machines for PV kilts are still waiting to be unloaded-Probably another 6 weeks before that is up and running. MAchine stitched and hand-No problem.

I would HIGHLY recommend that you go with USA KILTS. If you are budget minded, then a casual will be FINE for your engagement, and will look and last 10 times better and longer than anything else. Just my 2 cents.

Hi, Joshua. I am a McIntosh and have a couple of kilts in the Hunting Mackintosh. One is the Frugal Corner "16 oz." model. The other is hand-sewn wool. The FC kilt fits very well, doesn't have "bubble-butt", and is the newer version of acrylic fabric that has more of a wool-like hand. I'm very happy with it, considering what I paid for it. What you might consider, though, is that the colours, while accurately representing the sett, are considerably brighter than the swatch you've posted, which looks like the Lochcarron. It doesn't bother me when I'm wearing the kilt by myself, but if your buddy is wearing it beside yours, the difference in colour is something you should consider. Just my two cents worth.

Not sure how it can be that cheap but I'm tempted to buy one just to see. At that price I could buy my best man a nice sporran too! I've always operated on the adage of getting what you pay for, but am finding myself duly tempted..

    Angry

I bought a kilt from Ralph at Clansman Knitwear and will NEVER get anything from him again. Way slow on getting anything to you, doesn't reply to phone or email, flat out lies to you and the list goes on. They are the worst company to work with for anything

Not really much to think about...

With all I've read I have no desire to attempt to do business with such a company.

Only now you've all taken a wedding "to do" out of the done pile

Does anyone have a good lead on a kilt shop that will rent pieces instead of whole outfits? Also I need Argyle Jackets not Prince Charlie Coatee's. I'd imagine this may need to be a new thread... Please advise.

    Cheers,

    Joshua C. McIntosh

You might consider the "heavyweight" wool kilt in Irish Saffron from Stillwater. It's an 8 yard kilt about 12 oz weight. It's a color that's been worn by Irish pipe bands for a while and is a nod to the saffron-dyed leine which was the traditional Irish garment. Henry VIII forbade dyeing the leine saffron in 1537 (saffron was an expensive dye and apparently Henry didn't want to waste it on the Irish).

I have one myself and like it a lot.

I also have one and would agree it is good one to own and I'm neither Irish nor a piper!

To be honest all I know was the owner said it was a cheap PV he had bought for the wedding. So It was sold as PV. Failing a lab analysis I can only go on what the owner said it was sold as. Now if it was not PV obviously his vendor lied to him or he lied to me. I doubt he would have said its PV, if he was going to lie ,he would have claimed it was wool I would imagine. Neither of which I know to be true so I am sticking with the facts as reported.

Obviously had I realised at the time I needed to verify its nature, I would have paid hundreds of pounds to have a lab examine the ashes of a strangers garments to verify his word ...

I can't imagine why you wouldn't just get a semi-trad from USA kilts. You won't get a better kilt for the money.
