You might consider the "heavyweight" wool kilt in Irish Saffron from Stillwater. It's an 8 yard kilt about 12 oz weight. It's a color that's been worn by Irish pipe bands for a while and is a nod to the saffron-dyed leine which was the traditional Irish garment. Henry VIII forbade dyeing the leine saffron in 1537 (saffron was an expensive dye and apparently Henry didn't want to waste it on the Irish).
I have one myself and like it a lot.
