Thank you for your sentiments. I do not have the flower but I do have the memory of that day and when I need to be reminded that not all of the light has gone out of the world as you put it I just look at my children. Especially my oldest who really looks like her mother.

You have a lovely family, Robert. We never truly get over the loss of someone we love, but your wife has left pieces of her self behind to fill your life with joy. That's a wonderful legacy. You are a fortunate man.

I posted about this in another thread, but I am expanding on the fact that there are apparently different rules when in the presence of Kilt wearers. Rules that I do not understand. It is not just an unfamiliarity with other cultures, as if I were walking down the street in a Turban, it would be considered unspeakable to remark about it, even in a positive manner. In a Kilt, there are no such limits.
Why is it OK to inquire as the the status of my under garments when I am in a Kilt when no one cares if I am commando under my blue jeans? Such things are really not polite conversation no matter what I am wearing.

On a more positive note, I was wearing my "Real Men Wear Kilts" T-Shirt one day, with jeans. I stopped in at a local deli for lunch. The young lady behind the counter asked if I played the pipes, I said no. She then asked if I really wore a Kilt, and I said yes I do. She replied that that is cool. So there are some folks out there who are not threatened by us and our fine fashion sense.

I had a similar experience; It was Robbie Burns day 2 years ago on a Friday, in Canada - 25 degrees C. (A 16 oz 8 yard kilt is a lot warmer than you may think.)
Anyway I digress.

I take transit downtown, so I have gotten to know a number of people that I ride with. I was sitting down, and a lady sat down beside me. She noticed my kilt, and said "arent' you cold. You could try pantyhose."

I replied " Hmm, that might work, but I'm really not into that."

The following Sunday.....
A guy at my church (I play for the choir) said "did you shave your legs today? I replied " I had them waxed 3 weeks ago, so Im still good."

BTW I get compliments at a ratio of about 20 to 1 in favor, It comes with the territory.

I had some guy razz me at a casino in Vegas about the kilt. He was drunk, so no big deal, but he just wouldn't stop. When he asked about bagpipes I told him they were confiscated by airport security. He bought it!
On a side note, I carry a harmonica in my sporran most of the time. A few chords sound vaguely bagpipe-ish. I've played off the pipe question a dozen times with it. Wish I had it that day. As long as nobody asks me to play it for a funeral or a parade...

Most people have positive comments. And the chicks dig it.

The world is full of stupidity, ignorance, and people who think they are funny. I just don't have time for them, and I'd bet most of us here don't either.

I have gotten that same question on several occasions, "where's your bagpipes?".
My answer: "Do you really want to see my bagpipes?". End of discussion.
Really, if this gal believes you need to pack around a set of pipes to wear a kilt, then she is of the "old ladies" mind set. Forget it, move on, there are alot of "old ladies" out there like that, both male and female.
