I know what you mean. But, As a youngster I was taught that the middle of nowhere was just outside Lockridge, Ia., just east, toward Mt. Pleasant. Before any fellow Iowa natives get too upset, I love Iowa and my childhood there. I intend to get kilts in the Iowa State and Iowa State Dress tartans.
I can prove my association by my birth certificate.

As someone who wears the Iowa state tartan, I say you've made an excellent choice! My Scots ancestors settled in SE Iowa in Washington County and then slowly moved Northwest through Knoxville, Des Moines and finally ended up just north of Ft. Dodge.
