Too bad we don't have a private, "anything goes" section. I tip sacred cows like Lightning McQueen in a field full of tractors ...I wonder if the overall experience would be cathartic or chaotic, and for whom .
Grizz, I'm glad to see your sense of humor is intact , and that you guys were well-received at the ward you visited!
G...I'll respectfully keep your caution in mind, and I'm glad you interpreted the joking as nothing more than joking...at least, for my part it was joking. I cannot speak for others. To those compelled to take grievous offense when someone tips one of your sacred cows, remember humor is a powerful force, whether congenial or satirical. Our ability to give and receive both types, as well as to separate jest from intentional insult, is a major part of what sets our culture of liberty and tolerance apart from those of fear and oppression. Doubt me? Not only is humanity's love for civil mockery embraced far and wide, it is enshrined firmly in the law of our land, and has its place in documented and respectable history. Intentionally or accidentally removing your own or others' ability to make the distinction between jest and cruelty is a near-guarantee that you'll end up with a stampede...and nobody wants to see a herd of sacred cows running amok. Personally, I maintain a fairly small herd, so it's a rare occasion when one of them is tipped, but every time, it's critical to understand...was it insult, or simply jest? Think I'm trying to be covertly insulting? Not at all. I'm being serious...if jestingly satirical. Hopefully the community has enough of a working measure of my temperament to realize that if I felt the need to insult someone, I'd just come right out and do it. Think this is all spurious? Some diaphanous spandrel of bloviation atop the arch of religious controversy? Ok...you can keep on thinking that...but you may change your mind, the next time someone tells you "nice skirt!"
Sincerely and with a great many winks ,
Sean Seriously
