The desiccant is probably not a good idea as it may tend to draw the moisture out of the leather, causing it to dry out over time. As Zardoz, Rocky, and others have suggested a cloth bag (like a pillow case) is your best bet.
What I want to know is why are you "mothballing" your sporran for the winter?
