Good Book
I have read Sen. Webb's book and it does make for an interesting read. If you want to read a really great book on the Scots-Irish and British settlement in this country I would suggest Albions Seed. This book goes into detail on each of the various emigrants to this country like the New England Puritans, Virginia Cavaliers, and of course the Scots and Irish of the Carolina's. The author explores such things as folkways and customs, superstitions, naming ways (child naming) and child rearing, giving very fascinating examples. So far I have yet to see a book specific to the Scotch-Irish that is as informative as Albions Seed. I would suggest this book to anyone interested in their Scots-irish ancestors in this country.

Have you read James Leyburn's The Scotch-Irish: a Social History from the University of North Carolina Press. It still considered to be one of the best one-volume histories of the Ulster-Scots available. I also recommend Albion's Seed, but I would recommend one begin with Leyburn.

[QUOTE=cajunscot;929833]Have you read James Leyburn's The Scotch-Irish: a Social History from the University of North Carolina Press. You are correct about Leyburn's book as well. I started thinking if I still had a company, and after digging through my Library, realised that I had an old copy that had been once at Washington & Lee University in Virginia. That brought back some memories. You are definatly correct in stating that is a good start point, especially for people looking to get a good feel for the migration years, and patterns to the colonies.

I wuz sorta hoping that those advocating those other well-regarded books would write separate reviews. Wouldn't that be fun, as well as a great online resource?
