Yeah, I'm starting to think that this idea is doomed. I tried to float an idea to make something more inclusive and universal, and it sounds like people still have a lot of hurt feelings about this.

I don't understand why this forum is generally so heated as of late, and why this particular issue seems to bring out some rude behavior in otherwise civil posters.

But.. I really like the idea of an Xmarks standard roaming around. I'm personally against a quaich because it's traditionally used for whiskey. I think that the sentiment is right, but I think that a flat badge-type of standard would be easier to ship, and would only serve the purpose of a standard, not also a cup, flask, etc.

Then again, if people are going to be this reactive, then maybe the window for this type of unifying icon for our community has closed. That would, to me, be very sad.

Give it a little time: perhaps the window has not yet re-opened.

Have we considered something as simple as a teddy bear or summat? My mom has a Snoopy doll with a stocking cap and has badges from everywhere she's visited stuck in the cap. Perhaps a kilted bear that can be shipped relatively safely...?

Guys, quit talking about it, and MAKE it. If you have an opinon and a skill then quit jawing about it, make the bluidy thing and mail it to somebody.

Cajunscot if you think a quaich is the right thing, then go get a quaich. Mail it to me. I'll take some pictures of me and it and life in general and mail it to the next guy. Here, I nominate Tartan Hiker to be the guy I mail it to. "it"...whatever "it I is.

Whomever. Whatever. If not Cajunscot, then whomever. Nighthawk, make your flask, or whatever. Quit TALKING, and DO something if you want this little tradition to continue.

OK, I'm not gonna write this again...

Well put. I'm done with the discussion. Tired of overthinking it. Hopefully someone will just send something out. I hope it comes together soon though.

Cheers Alan H. It's the way to go. If we try to do it by concensus it will end up like the tie. Jamie did it the right way i.e. it just appeared.

I may just have to do that! Why the heck didn't I think of that? You, sir, are brilliant. PM Ted with your mailing address and he'll send it to you second. Whatever ***IT*** is. I already told him that if I do this, it goes to him first. He's my bestest buddy here. That, and I want pix with his cacti...

    ladies and Gentlemen.

I and the forum staff have been keeping an eye on all your suggestions and comments.

We think we have come up with a good idea. We just need a few more days to hammer out the details.

Please stay tuned. This will happen.
