Right after nearly 3000 views, are we going to add Ghillie shirts to the rank of "traditional" highland clothes.

Doubtful. This concurrent thread has nearly 14,000 views and more than 500 posts. I don't think the subjects of ghillie shirts has been much discussed in there. These shirts may play a significant role in the current fashion trends of kilt wearers (and even that is debatable), but that still would not put it in the category of "traditional."

Couldn't agree more. They are becoming traditional due to extensive common use and they have always been a perfectly acceptable form of dress.

Still not keen on them as my form of dress. But that's just me, it doesn't stop anyone else though. If people like 'em, crack on.

I guess that an historic reproduction shirt I bought at a fur rendezvous falls in the category with its lace-up 1/4 length neck opening. 200 years ago people didn't generally have undergarments. Long shirt tails served the purpose, as does this shirt. It keeps the kilt clean. Nuff said.

I have to agree. They are still firmly in the "fashion" category and have not been around long enough (compared to other parts of traditional kilt attire) to really be considered "traditional". Give it another 30 to 50 years, and see if these ghillie shirts are being worn by the older, more conservative Highlanders.

About the the Bib shirts

I wear them 2-3 times a month, I country Dance..not line, but then I was a workign cowboy at one time and we wore them as "dress shirts" with our best blue jeans and all our bling.. I have thought about wearing it with the kilt, but have not..yet
