Another missing kilt, and a non-functioning website
I too am suffering the disappearance of the Scottish store, or whatever it's now being called, having ordered a kilt in April. I have emailed repeatedly and even attempted to call (but I receive only a busy signal). The website does not appear to be functioning. I'm quite afraid that I've been robbed of 270 GBP! If anyone has any information about how I ought to proceed, I would be most grateful...oops--just found the post with the legal information. I'm grateful for it, and will pursue. Boy, what a mess.

And yet another missing kilt
I ordered a kilt on June 5 from The Scottish Store (Colin of Edinburgh). The website was functional after arriving back in the states in late June. Now, like the others, my order is overdue, the website is down and no answer to telephone calls. Thanks for the messages and help.
Greetings from a newcomer in New Mexico and thanks for the great site!

Good day Gentlemen,
I am the owner of The Scottish Store in Edinburgh. I am writing this in reply to the posting on this forum. The case involved here was quoted at a 10-12 weeks delivery time and as the order was placed on Jan 10th...I make that onle 9 weeks have passed. It is still on schedule to leave here on time. With regards to the name changing, we feel that the old name "The Scottish Store" was too close to the afore mentioned Gold family chain of tourist shops. We look at ourselves and aiming at a higher class of kiltwearer and therefore instigated the name change to upmarket ourselves. .... although it is still linked to the original website. I do hope that this clears up any misunderstanding and please feel free to visit us in Edinburgh on any future visits. Regards Colin

Well, I'll have to say that the guy sounds like he wants to do well. I think you'll get the kits, but Lord knows when. You can look back through the threads to see where in took me about a year to get a jacket delivered a few years back. It's a very nice jacket, but the time it took was pretty lengthy, especailly when you consider that I, too, couldn't get a response once I had paid.
I can live with a "gee, we're sorry, but it's going to take a long time," but no response is never OK.

Thank you for the information from Price Waterhouse, this is really useful. Do you have an email address for this person? I am oversees in the USA. I still can't believe that that store has cut off all contact and left so many customers in the lurch. The store knew that the package we were purchasing was for our wedding - do they have no conscience?

Buchanan1, here is the email address of the PWC contact: catriona.lynch@uk.pwc.com.
You may want to look at hiring a kilt for your wedding and then when you have more time (and are still interested) ordering one for yourself.
I had wanted the experience of my first time in Scotland, researching a bit of family history, and ordering a full kilt pkg handmade from Scotland (which for some reason on average is less expensive than anywhere in Canada - I don't understand).
I ordered in April when I was on holidays, it seems the retailer would or should have known they were experiencing financial difficulties and notified me of that possibility rather than just taking my payment. At the very least they could have contacted the outstanding customers and informed them of the situation and offered the contact information for the PWC folks handling the accounts - that would have been honourable.
Good luck with the wedding, maybe there are folks here that could point in the direction of a retailer in the US.
