Congratulations pipesndrumsnun, a find like that is worth celebrating.
I love thrift stores. Here are some of the finds that I'm most proud of:
The 3 piece pinstripe suit I got married in-$12
A tuxedo in my size- $8
A 24 gallon "show" aquarium- $10

That's a real coup, P&D. The only better thing is when you spot it in the store and know what a bargain it is - like finding a Harris Tweed for $5. Or shoes by Orvis for $2, in great shape.
Thrifts are da bomb!

I had to cool it on going to thrift stores...it was getting addictive. For a while I was going looking for anything photographic and still look now and then for manual typewriters. It's just weird when you see some of the people who are obviously looking for a "score" (versus the folks who are just looking for something that they actually want to use)...it's even weirder when you realize that you're becoming one of those "score" searchers.
Daughter and I still can't resist going in and looking on the skirt rack to see if a kilt slipped through, though.
Best

Thrift Shop finds are great!
To date I have found:
Black Regulation Doublet (!!!)
Lovat Green Argyll
(Both jackets seemed to have been owned by the same person)
A brand new cable knit sweater made by John Molloy's of Ireland
(Tags were still on it. I paid $7 for it. i looked it up on their website and found it sells for over 200 Euros!)
A grouse claw kilt pin
A pennanular brooch with cairngorm gems
A claymore kilt pin
An amethyst thistle kilt pin
Keep up the good searching!

Salvation Army Special Forces? Does that mean that we can get camo tambourines?

I won this Harris Tweed sport coat on ebay last week...
it's no $3...it was $27 after shipping, but WOW! I received it last Saturday, mint condition, great color. I'll be converting it in the near future!

Haven't found anything kilt-related at a thrift store yet. But, a couple weeks ago, I'd won an old Nikon film camera body on eBay through the Seattle Goodwill eBay store. Other than it being a bit dusty, needing new light seals, and to have the battery chamber cleaned of corrosion, it was in mint condition. $24.50, including sales tax. Meter functions pretty well, and everything else works like new. Suspect that the last time it was used, was probably in the early-mid '90s. Had a roll of ancient Kodak Gold 100 film loaded, when I got it.
