So yeah, I suppose if someone matured their whisky in plastic or glass containers, it could be clear. Although I'm not sure why they'd do that, since the wood barrels are part of what gives whisky its character.
At any rate, it's clear (pun intended) that the drink in his hand is not the same as what's shown in the bottle to the right.
And I know it's not Romulan Ale, either, since that stuff is blue!

And illegal in the Federation!
The grass is greener on the other side of the fence...and it's usually greenest right above the septic tank.

For the most part, but have someone pour you a glass of Ardbeg - it's close to being completely clear. Also, most of the dark color in a scotch is...coloring.

I'll wager that depends on the scotch.

That's...um...space whisky. Yeah. That's it. Space whisky.
Really cool find. I wonder if there is a bottle available anywhere.

With what I've read about how careful advertisers are about product placement and portrayal, I'm guessing that the glass holds an H2O-like beverage because some jurisdictions, such as mine own Canuckistanian one, have laws against protraying someone actually drinking or even holding the alcoholic product.
Also, considering some of the previous discussion, I've been waiting for someone to come up with what I (think I) remember about the Scotch used in the orginal series- did not Scotty say it was of Antarean (or somesuch scientifictiony popular but astronomically unlikely) origin?
Really though, I have to stop watching those "Big Bang Theory" marathons so much... they're having an effect... a bad effect...

I never could understand some of the regulations in advertising. Here in the states they can show people holding a beer, but not actually drinking it. It took me years to figure out what beer was for. I thought it was some kind of finger cooling device.
I can't remember where Mr. Scott said his hooch came from...but it was often green. In the TNG episode "Relics" he hijacks a bottle of Aldeberan Whiskey, which seemed to do the trick for him. When he asked Data what it was. he replied "It is...it is...it is green." This was a tip of the hat to a line Jimmy Doohan had in TOS episode "By Any Other Name." If my credit score was the same as my "nerd-quotient" I could buy a mansion with no money down!
I'm contemplating printing out a label like the one in the ad and slapping it on a bottle of Glenlivet or Johnny Walker Black...just for kicks!

I want to say Wolf In The Fold, but I don't think that's it.

Well the real Scotty WAS Irish, was he not? At least the name suggests that.. a little hidden humour there with the green reference.
Anyway, when I was a wee lad myself, they couldn't say "beer" in an ad so they used the word "cheer" in TV jingles and so on:
"Dow [a dead brand] brings out the best in cheer.... any time good friends are near, bring out the best in cheer!" It was dead silly.
