Welcome to X-Marks.
The feature you are talking about is probably an extra pleat. Barb put one in my campbell kilt and told me (IIRC) it is sometimes necessary in order to properly center the sett in the top apron.

Hello and a warm from Boston, Massachusetts, U.S.A.
I believe the seam you are referring to may either be a fabric splice or some kiltmakers use a seem there to alter the hang of the fabric, so that the kilt may sit properly on the wearer. Different body shapes require different techniques.

Thanks Steve and Turpin,
I think you may be right Steve. Here's a picture of the seam I'm talking about.....
So that's the hem of the last pleat viewed from the rear. So that's the back of the front apron on the left of the picture.
According to my wife, it causes the bottom of the last pleat to kick out the bottom of the left of the apron a little.

Hello and welcome from Houston, Texas, GG. You are welcome to Texas anytime, but you will find that jalapenos are one of the preferred garnishes on burgers rather than beets and carrots.
