I could see a Klingon insignia making an awesome-looking kilt pin, if its angularity doesn't make it impractical. For those who didn't spend the summer of 1988 reading every Star Trek novel in order, you can see the Klingon insignia on this mug:

Per the original post, I can't imagine anything better for the Leatherneck tartan than the USMC insignia, in pewter, black, green, or desert tan.
And just how are you going to attach that mug kiltpin to your kilt?

I took Ham's advice and have a kiltpin for every kilt...and then some. And have also enjoyed exploring options to the molded crest and sword.

When my Leatherneck hand sewn came in from Kathy's Kilts I first wanted to honor my late little brother's service as a Drill Instructor and SSgt. But the only thing around was the small collar insignia SSgt pins, unless I had something custom made for probably more than the kilt cost. After playing around with ideas I stumbled into this standard kilt pin on sale at a Highland Games. It solves the vertical problem well.

I solved the "honor the late little brother" with a jacket.

Got one of those USMC jackets with the huge emblem on the back, added a San Diego DI patch and his SSgt rank on one sleeve with a black "Rest in Peace" band across it. Doesn't show real well in the pic.

But, back to the point. Looking for, and acquiring alternative kilt pins is fun, enjoyable, and probably another addiction.

I really like the look of stacked pins along the edge of the apron, but have yet to go that route myself...still looking for the right pins.

Oh yeah, and my favorite thing with my Leatherneck is the mini K-Bar Skien dubh that Kathy Lare's husband sells. Its not functional, a letter opener in a USMC emblem sheath. But the top of that handle sticking out of kilt hose makes a loud statement.

Have fun, play, enjoy. There are no rules.
