I can relate to all of this... I see fur and I think hmmmm sporran, just as I see feathers.. and think... hmmm that will make a cool loose fan.. I meet people from other parts of the world.. and I wonder... what do they have around them, that I could make a cool sporran, or fan...LOL

I have a friend who bagged a cougar and.....okay, that doesn't sound right....I have a friend who shot a mountain lion and I tried convincing him about the sporran opportunities there. He decided to have it placed on his wall instead.

now a question:
can only be done sporran with terrestrial animal? (four legs obvious), because I have seen beautiful purses and accessories done with fish skin. yes of salmon mainly and the truth is that the work craftsman is beautiful, I do not create to have seen esporran thus. then…it can?
Don't see why not, fish, snake or gator, could be very interesting and unique!

I found a hollowed critter yesterday at my moms, must have got it at a period camp thing. I don't see a seem, it just seems hollowed. I was thinking, 'how do I know if it is big enough to make into a sporran' and the cost and such...

So many wonderful furs out there to make into sporrans, but I can only wear one (maybe two) at a time. You know you're over the top when every time you smell a skunk you think "future sporran". Mrs. Kiltman has suggested sporrans anonymous.

I do have a rather nice sporran made from buffalo, no hair though. It's black buffalo hie with red suede gussets.
This thread has me thinking of the deer skin that my girlfreind has in her freezer until she can get it tanned. She's got two, maybe I can talk her into getting one tanned hair on, and giving my enough for a sporran.

Me and your girlfriend would get along! I have 2 deer and 3 elk hides salted in the garage waiting until I get around to tanning them...I also have a stuffed blackbear cub in the attic that had it's feet chewed off by mice.
