Just a little guide for y'all in the South. Only kidding -- I'm married to a Louisiana Cajun who lived in Florida for a while. I've learned to hold my own as a Midwestern Mudsill around her family.

Guess that's a little better, Hawk. It's only funny because that's not what you meant...

Cajunscot, thanks for keeping me honest. I've met some of the most hillbilly down-home redneck good ol' boys in the Midwest and I can't deny it. But then again I've met some honest to God Yankees up there too.

No worries; my father-in-law's family are from the Florida parishes of LA, with a few bona fide Florida "crackers" thrown in.

Interestingly, my mother-in-law frequently refers to anything north of Baton Rouge as "Yankee parishes".

Re: What gets your knickers in a bunch?

I get frustrated with those who refuse to recognize knowledge. Good example: those who insist that a problem (e.g. static on their transmitter) is caused by one thing (e.g. nearby electrical interference on a clear channel) when I can tell from training and experience(I'm a licenced radio amateur) that they are using a microphone with a loose connection. Had that problem with a tour guide last week. Drove me nuts. By watching and listening I could even tell that the loose connection was in the boom about half an inch below the mic head.

I don't have a lot of areas of extreme expertise, but I like to be heard when I share from decades of experience.

People who speak very loudly in public.
I was in a bar / restaurant in Gambia when a group of about 10 young Americans came in and boy were they loud. They only ordered few pizzas to share and hardly any drinks. My friend and I tore up paper napkins and stuck them in our ears which went down well with the rest of the customers. The group did not stay long and there was a spontanious round of applause from everyone in the restaurant as they left . Unfortunately the UK also let the side down. A group from Barnsley in W Yorkshire came into another bar. Not only were they loud but the language was choice too. Annoying and embarrassing. They were asked to leave. This year they are going to Dubai. They may not get back if they keep up that behaviour.

Bullies. Anyone who picks on someone and thinks they can get away with it. Whether its physical, verbal or emotional. A bully sets me straight to hostile. I've put more than one jerk through a wall for bullying the girl they were with.
My wifes ex-husband will get his payment for bullying her and the kids (which he continues to do) in 11 years, 355 days (not that I'm counting).... thats when the youngest turns 18. It's my happy thought.
