    Responses to my kilts

With the longish weekend, I've not worn pants since I got off work Wednesday evening.

I went to a couple of parties last night in my Utilikilt and did some shopping in my USAKilt today.

One of the attendees last night decided to do a kilt check on me last night and after confirming that I was in fact regimental, looked in shock at my wife and said "your husband isn't wearing underwear under that thing."

I think she was concerned that I might have put some on at some point in the night because she kept going back to check and make sure I still wasn't wearing any. I get pretty agreeable after a few beers. My wife just thinks it's funny.

I was out doing errands today and one lady at safeway stopped up short, looked at me and said "that's something new" and went one with her business. A little later, an older lady stopped me and said "you don't see many people dressed like that. It's pretty cool."

I'm starting to think that different types of kilts bring out different responses in people.

My tartan kilts are more easily identified as such rather than just looking like a skirt. Add a sporran and it seems to bring out a positive response quite quickly.

But I think the UK makes people stop and think about it. Is that dude wearing a skirt or is it a kilt? The local media here in Seattle periodically do bits on Utilikilt so a good portion of the population has heard of them. The woman who kept such a close eye on my absence of skivvies last night had heard of them but had never seen one in the flesh.

Sounds like a pretty fun week for you.

Though, the kilt check sounds a bit freaky...

Seeing UK's are solids coloured...I think I can understand how some people would think "is that a skirt or a kilt?"Seeing my 2 kilts are both black, I'm betting that's what people think with me.

    Have fun. Cheers.

Most people nowadays seem to accept any solid coloured skirt on a guy as being a kilt.

Despite the lack of pleats I have yet to hear someone call this denim cargo, from Midas Clothing for men, a skirt - All of those who have commented have been favourable and have referred to it as a Kilt.
Very practicable for a day when it is too windy for a proper kilt.

Yeah, I can see the practability of yours with the wind.

To-day, had some moderate gust that lifted the pleats a bit - not much. But it's a strong gust that's aways my worst enemy!

let the wind blow high, let the wind blow low, through the streets in my kilt i'll go!

In response to Cessna, I think those in Scotland might be more open-minded about kilts and kilt-like garments than areas of the U.S. where the kilt is never seen and the whole idea is viewed as cross-dressing. Of course I've seen posts from some of our scottish members suggesting not all scots are so open-minded, but overall...

I kept thinking: maybe a UK is not the only thing she's never seen before...

That'll teach you to drink soda. Beer wouldn't have left you so willingly.

I didn't even catch the double entendre until I was proofreading my post. At that point, I had to let it go. We do have standards to maintain here.

Another member here who is a Canadian living in the USA shared how very surprised he is at how taken aback people here are to seeing a kilt. Another Canadian friend now living in this area has also shared with me how much more Scottish tradition there is north of the border. I guess it can show in our reactions.
