new SK specialty arrived

My new Sportkilt specialty fabric in Army ACU arrived this afternoon. They shipped it FedEx and I was able to track it accross the country from Cali. That made me happy.
Well-packaged, it came out of the box in beautiful shape.
The next thing I noticed was the elasticized waistband. I wasn't expecting that.
The ACU was laid-out well and looks good. I opted for the sewn-down pleats and was pleased with that also. It is LIGHTweight, which I was expecting.
So far we have a trim-looking, tidy casual kilt.
Now we come to the "D'oh!": When I tried it on my wife noticed that the bottom of the kilt is noticeably shorter than the apron. The gap is more than an inch. This makes me sad.
Good news... I emailed Seamus and he IMMEDIATELY replied. I'm sending it back (even less-than-perfect it hurts to send it away), and getting a new one.
Overall, I have had an outstanding interaction with Sportkilt.

Glad Seamus is making it right for you. My experience with kiltmakers who sew kilts more than one at a time is that the dings etc often slip through the inspection process - if there's even an inspection process in place.

You deserve your money's worth and its reassuring to see that SportKilt is standing behind their product.

I only know of one other vendor selling an ACU kilt, but I can't afford an FK right now. Someday I'll get out to BC to get measured.
I'm probably going with SK for my son's kilts to start. For casual tartans, I'm probably going to stick with USAK.

I understand the rush to get kilted. I did the SportKilt thing early on too. Today, I wish I'd invested that money in a "better" kilt. I can guarantee your money is well invested with a Freedom Kilt...only drawback I can see is your Army kilt will be sewn up by a Marine...but hey, its all good.

I was looking for a casual, which could be worn out or knocking around the house, playing with kids, etc. I almost went with a Buzz Kidder canvas in woodland.
Soon enough I'll get with FK for one of his well-reviewed kilts. If UK did ACU or multi-cam...

My first kilt was a sportkilt. I went with the solid (ninja) black, with sewn down pleats and 3 inch belt loops. I love it, but I also get self conscious in it given it's extreme lightweight and my inability to keep the last pleat straight.

On Friday I received my fixed SK ACU kilt.

It is not fixed.

My wife is furious about this. I am not pleased. The only "repair" that I can see is that the apron was made narrower at the bottom. The gap has not been affected.

The elastic in the waist band bunches at the beltline. The pleats are not crisp.

Today I will go to a local seamstress to see if I can have fixes & modifications made. I want the gap made less apparent, the elastic removed and the pleats stitched sharp.

Why am I going through this effort? I actually like the way it wears. It feels GOOD. I like the light weight, length and the camo pattern. If I can have this fixed locally I will be content enough; but if it isn't possible, I'll return it and get an SWK standard.

I thought ALL the sportkilts had elastic in the band? Isn't that how the cover such a wide range of waists with a few stock sizes?
