Highland scots pistols _ n. Amer
Were there "Highland Scots Pistols in N.Amer ?????
But FIRST
1. If you are "tired" of me posting about the "highland scots pistols", BLAME "BOLDHIGHLANDER" for "inspiring me to posting this thread. He made the mistake of mentioning the 77th & 78th's having them in N.Amer.( "A Highland Scots Pistol ????") 
2. Please HELP out on this.
1. OTHER examples, comments & esp. more info on mil.(ALL dates )
I First known example Jamestowne ca 1607
A. A Snaphance - according to my info, this pistol has a "highland snaplance Lock"
B. Most likely owned by a "lowland" Gentleman ( note the Mayflower req. that the Gentlemen be equiped arm, incld. PISTOLS

1. Kilted Scots
2. Formed a militia unit in 1740 ("Highland Independent Company of Foot" & were equiped W/Pistols ( modles unknown, but were "Higland"
3. Also fought on the Amer. side, in the Rev. War (defeated by the Black Watch in 1779)
5. Here is a picture of the group ( Note that Oglethorp is KILTED)

B. Scots Regiments & other mil. units

a. 77th & 78th regiments

Here is a icture of what is suposed to be his pistol (there are some ?? about this.

NOTE-- Many of these pistols became "SPOILS of WAR'
Here are 2 such examples
1. A pair of Lobe butt, all steel scots pistols were bequeathed by GEO. WASHINGTON ( war spoil) to Lafayette in 1799 These pistols were made by Thomas Murdoch of Leigh ( Note the picture, although is one of a pair made by T. Murdoch, it may not be Geo. Washington's pistol. I have contacted the museum, but as yet no responce. BUT if not it would be VERY sim. (IMHO)

2. Here is one in the NRA Museum ( Rev. War)

3. After the Rev. War NEED examples, units etc.
C. Made for CIVILIANS.
