    Ubiquitous Arizona

Storm has just blown in to the Valley of the Sun from California. We just had some rain (20 minutes) and even some hail mixed in. I am marking my calendar- as most Arizonans do- so I can look back to remember which day we had rain on. I knew this would happen because this morning I was out washing my daughter's car. She dropped in for the weekend from from the U in Tucson.

    Good day to read!

I picked up Compton MacKenzie's Monarch of the Glen. Chapter one was fun- a nice discussion of kilt vs. kilts and who can wear them and what kind therein. And this coming from 1941. (I guess the discussions never grow old.)

Then on to Chapter 2- The Scuffle in the Heather and there it was-
"The center Mac 'ic Eachainn's line of battle consisted of Chester Royde, whose fat face had taken on the lines of an Arizona sheriff riding after a gang of rustlers in the timeless air of Wild West romance, and his head keeper, Duncan MacDonald, who looked like Elijah hot on the trail of the priests of Baal. The left was commanded by Hugh Cameron of Kilwhillie, who had a couple of gillies with him."

Arizona in Scottish literature and even a fair description of our current Sherrif Arpaio to boot. What fun.

We enjoyed it while it lasted! Hail and all. We must have been part of the 10% that got the 10% chance of rain today.

Sorry, Beertigger, the description just seemed uncanny. That's all I have to say about that- ala Forrest Gump.

I was out shooting in the desert when it hit. Cool stuff.

Nice cool breeze, rain and shooting. Got wet, but who cares, I'll dry.

I'll Probably get banned for the guns reference. Oops.

I thought it was kind of strange, seeing the Phonix Nascar race, on TV, redflagged for rain.

For non-Zonies. If you raise them little cacti in a small planter the way to keep them healthy is to check the weather in Phoenix, Arizona. If it rains in Phoenix, water the cacti. Simple.

Much of what is mentioned above is why I slipped away to the canyonlands after 33 years in Phoenix...

    Thunderbolt Thank You!

It makes it all worthwhile to be part of this forum when you see members taking that extra moment and care to be respectful to the rules of X Marks the Scot, their fellow members, and the staff here.

On behalf of the owner and staff of X Marks the Scot let me say that we really appreciate it when our members take ownership of this site and all contribute in a way that is positive, informative, respectful, fun, and friendly.

It takes a little more time to do this, it takes a little restraint, but the end result is worth it.

Like so many others here there have been many times that I have taken that extra minute to think about what I just wrote before posting. Sometimes I have decided on reading what I have written that it wasn't the right for the forum. In taking that extra time to edit or delete that post I am showing that I am a part of this great community.

We have all sorts of sportsmen on XMTS and an incidental mention of being out hunting or shooting is hardly a matter of concern.

Of course while doing so one could take a potshot at our forum rules or a snipe at the Moderators while mentioning such, but that wouldn't be very nice or in terribly good taste.

Luckily we are so forunate here on X Marks the Scot.com to have have so many fine ladies and gentlemen as members.

    Cheers

I don't think we saw any rain over on the East side yesterday. I know we got hit with a huge dust storm, but I don't recall any rain. Although, there were some dried dirt drops on my car this morning, I never know if it's from the sprinklers or rain.

We've actually done pretty good on getting rain this year, compared to the last 10 years that is. Hopefully we'll still have some hearty winter storms here soon.
