My first kilt experience
Hey, all! I've been lurking around here for a month or so, decided to finally join up. I'd told myself that I would only get a kilt in my family tartan (my mum is a Ferguson), and given how expensive they tend to be I just finally got around to ordering it - 8 yarder on its way from Scotweb, scheduled dispatch 4/14!
But the bug caught me and I ordered two more kilts anyway - my All Ireland from SportKilt came in just in time for St. Paddy's day. Wore it to a party last Saturday and to a casino on Tuesday... I was originally a little worried about the latter, its being my first time in public (away from friends) wearing the kilt.
The majority of the people I came across just had better things to worry about than a "guy in a skirt". A few people gawked, and I got a couple of compliments on it and specifically my sporran. The only really down-side was my fiancée, who thinks it looks ridiculous and was quick to tell anyone who gave me a second look that "It's ok to laugh". Oh well. She thinks I'm daft for shaving with a straight razor, and now for wearing a kilt. Eh, what does she know? ;)
All in all I'm very happy with it. I am amazed at how great it feels. It didn't take long before I stopped being self-conscious at all and just went about my business as if I were wearing trousers. My Heritage of Ireland PV from the Scotland Kilt Company just came in. It feels very different than the SportKilt: much heavier. I've got to get it tailored a bit, but I can hardly wait!

Not just a fellow Texan, but fellow DFW, it seems I found somewhere a thread relating to a kilt night y'all had not too long ago. Sorry I missed it!

I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…

Yup! I'm on the other side of the metroplex... north of Ft Worth, but it's easier to just say "D/FW" for those who aren't familiar with all the areas (not to mention, many of us are used to driving all over the place to meet up with everyone ).
Sorry you missed the kilt night, too! There are a lot of us on here, but many folks tend to get quiet and busy and don't check in or post very often.
I'm sure another kilt night will pop up eventually.
