Gonna Be Kilted in Cancun - Any Advice?

The question about kilts in London got me to realize maybe some of the Rabble have experience being kilted in Quintana Roo, Cancun, Cozumel, Playa del Carmen area of Mexico....?

I've read that kilts aren't uncommon there, the tourist community is very international etc. Looking forward to being kilted there. Thought instead of just charging in overly optimistic it might be a good idea to ask if any of the rabble have personal experience being kilted there?

If they keep me as cool as they did in the humidity of Maui I'll be a happy camper.

    Thanks for any reports.

Sorry Ron no help, Last time I was south of the Border that far I was still imbibing, needless to say don't remember much. Walked across the border at Palomas last fall, no big deal. Just another fat tourista going to El Dentist. Now coming back, gee that was fun!

OK, my advice is: If you take off your shoes in order to wade the lagoon and cast a fly for 'cudas etc, take your shoes with you, or hide them very well. ID and I had our shoes stolen, probably by the grounds crew who saw where we were going and what we were fixing to do.

Ron- if you get the chance, eat at El Pescador, on Margarita street a couple of blocks from the bus station. It is a neighborhood restaraunt, hardly anybody foreign there, the service does not speak English. Food is the best.

Sorry, no experience of Mexico, Ron, but enjoy your trip.
Might be worth your while contacting Rex Tremende, I recall he posted a thread some time ago about wearing a kilt in Mexico.

I've never been to that part of Mexico, but I wore my kilt in Puerto Escondido, a tourist/surfer town, without problem, and I know a former forum member who wore his in the Tijuana area quite frequently. Enjoy your trip.

    Best regards,

Go to the Bullfight while you're there. Very interesting and they have a part of the program where they let tourists (Drunken Gringos) and kids who want to be Matadors try their hand against young bulls. Some of the kids are very impressive. The tourists are just plain funny.

    Mexico

I've been to Cancun and Cozumel but I never saw anyone wearing a kilt.
Cozumel is more family oriented than Cancun which is more Spring break oriented. Knowing the people there, I wouldn't worry.

Leave your shoes where Brooster left his sgian so nobody finds them. It is warm. Sandals. I'd wear a light-weight kilt, t-shirts or "vests" (sleeveless undershirts). Wide straw or other sun hat.
