Renaissance Scots Living History Association community outreach
Earlier this year, a member had brought up to the Board of Directors about the Ren Scots spending part of a day where she works, which is the Clare Bridge Alzheimers/Dementia Care Facility in Highlands Ranch (it's about 2 miles from where we have the Colorado Scottish Festival and Highland Games in August), in an attempt to do some community outreach. We were looking at June 12th, which is a Sunday, from about 12:00pm to 4:00pm (since there is minimal set-up, we could meet at about 11:00am and be gone by 5:00pm.) We have asked Neil Gillette and the 79th Highlanders if they could provide pipers and are going to ask Gobs O'Phun if they would be available as well.
Sunday is "family day" so the resident's families will be there as well as the regular residents themselves, and the facility is thinking about inviting the residents in the neighborhoods surrounding the facility as well as possibly the media. I think we can also spread our name a little further with the family members seeing us and we can also make sure to "remind" them of the festivals coming up shortly after this event.
We would be displaying fabric arts, taking residents outside to where we could be doing some blacksmithing and leatherwork, and then out a gate (we could use our shinai pit ropes and poles to set up a walkway to "guide them") to where they could view the Wolves, and then back into the facility, and we would have "roving minstrels" (a.k.a. Gobs).
This gives us an opportunity to visit "more mature" citizens and help them find some pleasure in their twilight years. These are men and women who are in the age bracket of most of our parents (possibly grandparents) and who will most likely never make it to any of our festivals, and based on their age many may not be around much longer. I can say out of personal knowledge how important these events can be to people suffering from these horrible afflictions.
I know there are quite a few people here who have shown an interest in my groups activities, which is why I'm posting this. We're going to put up a rather stripped down camp, but if any of our Colorado rabble would mind volunteering a little time to help us with loading and unloading equipment, we could use the help. Hell, if any of our Colorado rabble are interested in joining the group, we're always looking for fresh meat! ...er... new members! So if you want to help, please free to send me a PM or reply here.

Travis, hit me up about this closer to the time. We're closing on a house at the end of this month but it needs a bit of work before we move in. Don't know what the status will be at that time. Might even get my parents down for that since Mom is right at the point of moving into the 2nd stage of Alzheimers.

Thanks, Greg. Never mind of the need of help thing, though. We decided not to set up the fight ring and the smithy. It was decided that with dementia patients, there was just too much liability. Don't want anyone getting too unsettled or injured!
